Travel is little beds and cramped bathrooms. It’s old television sets and slow internet connections. Travel is extraordinary conversations with ordinary people. It’s waiters, gas station attendants, and housekeepers magically becoming the most interesting people in the world. It’s churches that…
I reblog this to remind myself that I’m not crazy for going off the beaten path. Thank you, new friend.
Darren Criss singing Katy Pery’s “Teenage Dream” over the instruments of OneRepublic’s “Too Late to Apologize”.
One of the BEST mashups I’ve ever heard, and of course - it’s DARREN CRISS.

I’ve led a team that has discovered a microbe that can substitute arsenic for phosphorus…
What I’m presenting to you today is a microbe that is doing something different than life as we knew it. I was taught, as a biochemist, that all life on Earth, all life we know of—to hearken back to the ‘pale blue dot’ idea of Carl Sagan—all life we know of is here so far. And that if there’s an organism on Earth that’s doing something different, we’ve cracked open the door to what’s possible for life elsewhere in the universe.
FELISA WOLFE-SIMON, NASA Research Fellow, at the agency’s historic press conference announcing the discovery of microbes with DNA substituing arsenic for phosphorus, one of six key elements essential to life.
Holy shit.
(via inothernews)She doesn’t want to keep going. She finds comfort in everything that could end her very existence, but she would rather go without the frills anyways. Making the next step is frightening, but she cannot wait to get out of this encroaching monster. This boogeyman. This town. This is not your typical suburan teen pipe dream, this is being gone for good. Erased. Eliminated by your own means. “You can do whatever you want,” they all chime in unison. She has it recorded in her ears enough to mute it out. Fuck what everyone else has, does, is because most of them are as insecure as she. “My car is the fastest,” until someone else on the private street buys a lambo. In some ways she’s the lucky one. She’s been saved from the constant superficial betterment that can errode the soul. Her untouched aura feels like the only thing she has left, so getting to another world must be her answer. How to get there as soon as possible is her mission.
Maybe coming in from the cold warm will clear her mind.
Yeah, this is happening.
